Datang bulan significa literal y poéticamente «entrando en luna» y hace referencia a la menstruación femenina. Es un término que nos encontramos constantemente en la mayoría de las entradas a los templos (pura) balineses. Esto es porque se prohíbe la entrada a las mujeres al templo mientras tienen su período, por considerar que la mujer (wanita) es en ese momento im-pura y sólo con el hecho de entrar en el recinto sagrado puede contaminarlo o incluso acarrear desgracias.
Esta serie se articula en torno a estas mujeres constantemente «sucias» que habitan en el paraíso.
Datang bulan means both literally and poetically «the moon has come» and refers to female menstruation. This term is constantly found at the entrance of most Balinese temples (Pura). It signifies that women aren’t allowed to enter the temples while they are on their period. It is believed that women (wanita) are impure while they are menstruating and that they can pollute the sacred precinct just by entering in it or even bring misfortune to the community.
This series of paintings was created to honour these often “impure” women, who are living in “paradise”.
